Following an appalling highway accident, the mystery patient nicknamed 'John Doe' wakes up in hospital suffering total amnesia. But his very first visitor seems hellbent on killing him. After a narrow escape, the bewildered amnesiac goes on the run -plunging ever deeper into a hideous waking nightmare where the whole world seems his enemy.

His sole ally is Jessie Bales, a small-town private investigator who agrees to help trace his former identity. But her initial discoveries are downright terrifying - a hotel room littered with grotesque

'snuff' photographs, the diary of a psychotic madman... and a trail of mutilated corpses. Is Jessie's new client responsible for this carnage? Or merely the victim of a diabolical frame-up?

And meanwhile dark presences continue to stalk them, as they close in on a truth more sinister than they could dare imagine.
